Green School Awards 2019
Marlborough School received a prestigious Green School Award in February 2019, Bexley: Best Health and Wellbeing Award.
This award recognises the outstanding commitment of our school to promoting and developing green issues. Class 4 attended an event on Thursday 14th February 2019 at Ashford International Hotel where the award was presented to them.
Feedback from the Green School Awards:
‘Marlborough School started its Forest School last year - completely from scratch - and the students were integral to the development of the natural space. The secondary school, which caters for students with severe, complex and physical learning difficulties, involved the students with planting trees, sensory plants and willows.
Ecologically-friendly paths ensure that wheelchair users can access both the Forest School and the allotment area where the students can get hands on experience of growing their own food. The outside classroom has a sedum roof which is a ‘living, green roof’ complete with a layer of vegetation allowing lessons in all weathers. Meanwhile a health and wellbeing area gives students the chance to relax and learn about mindfulness and its long term health benefits. This area will be developed further by the planting of a wild meadow in the spring with the help of the green fingered students.’
Further positive feedback was also received after the awards about our students:
‘Please pass on my thanks to your children, they made our day involving them and are a true asset to your school. In fact, our CEO was so impressed that he would like to come and record a case study video to highlight the great work going on within the forest school and the reason you won the award.’
