Percussion Supersonic is a wonderful project that Marlborough have been involved with since its early planning stages. It gives students the opportunity to create an inclusive performance in an ensemble, involving young people with and without learning disabilities. LSO On Track from the London symphony Orchestra, offered a partnership in which the London Symphony orchestra players engage with the pupils directly in schools and in rehearsals.
This is a project that was formed as part of the Bird College Festival of Music where over 1,200 performers from schools in the London Borough of Bexley will take to the stage for this annual performance at the Royal Festival Hall, South Bank Centre.. The concert will feature performances from the diverse range of ensembles provided by the Bird College Music Service as the lead organisation for the Bexley Music Education Hub.
Three schools were involved and the process began with individual school workshops, which then combined to create a bespoke performance that was performed at the Royal festival hall for the first time in 2018. We had a day the Festival Hall to rehearse, everyone worked incredibly hard watching and following our conductor. The performance was brilliant and we got a standing ovation from the audience of 2000 people. We all really enjoyed this amazing experience! One of our Students said ‘I love the music, it makes my heart beat!’.
Percussion Supersonic 2019 is underway now for our performance at the end of March.
