Open Orchestra

Open Orchestras supports Music Education Hubs, arts organisations and schools to create orchestras that are accessible to young disabled people. They provide carefully re-worked music that enables young disabled people to participate in Open Orchestras whatever their needs and access requirements.

Marlborough have been part of Open orchestra since April 2018. We have weekly session for our open Orchestra musicians and they play a range of instruments from drums to guitars, iPad to eye gaze. They begin with individual sessions and build up into small groups, before we bring the orchestra together and work towards our end performance.

The students are learning to develop their skills including: listening, responding, leading, following, and expressing. Our students are at centre of our Open Orchestras sessions, the music is created around their abilities, needs and musical interest and identities. It is wonderful to see our orchestra participants grow in confidence and start to own their instruments and music making!
